Join me on the dark side, in NaNoEdMo

OK – so I totally made up NaNoEdMo (National Novel Editing Month) but it SHOULD be a thing. So, I’m making it a thing – for me anyway. For the month of June, I will be spending everyday editing 1300 words a day with NaNoWriMo-style intensity.

For the past few months I’ve been earning money in my other life, as a Communications Officer to fix our roof, and doing an hour of writing or editing before work at the wonderful hour of 7.30am. It’s not left much time for blogging but it is good for my discipline!

I’m pretty sure I will need more time to edit the new scifi novel, but I’ve already done a read though of the first few chapters and I KNOW what needs to be done. The ending plateaus so I need to raise the stakes and the voice has developed into a much more likeable character, which now needs to carry on.

vanSo now, I just need to do it! And not get distracted by other things… like painting. Damn that Van Gogh exhibit- he got me picking up the brush again. The last thing I need is another distraction. But he has taught me a few things about perseverance and honing. And it was great to know that he wasn’t a brilliant painter overnight;  he worked at it, and worked at it!

So join me so we can keep each other motivated and because I really need someone to hold me accountable… I should make a graph! Yes! A graph! Just like NaNoWriMo!

Enough about me, how are your projects coming along?

  1. It SHOULD be a thing! In fact everyone who does NaNoWriMo should have to sign a contract saying they’ll spend at least a month editing before they even think about finding an agent/publisher or self-publishing! Good luck!

    1. Without a doubt! Thanks for the wishes. I’m going to need it. But at least I can tell people I’m on an editing marathon and can’t come out… I hope the weather is rubbish so that I stay focused.

Got something to say?
