Secret Santa – advent story

Published by Retreat West

My Story – ‘Secret’ Santa was picked my Retreat West to be one of their advent stories this festive season. It was a much-needed boost! I haven’t been writing very much lately, let alone submitting, and this was the first (maybe the only) flash fiction piece I submitted all year.

I seem to have become more of a facilitator of other people’s writing at the moment with the Oxford Flash Fiction Prize (now open by the way), which is exciting too but it does eat into my own writing time.

This story, I wrote for fun (I know, crazy right?) a long time ago and it’s been sitting on my laptop for ages. When I saw the call, I gave it a quick read and sent it off, thinking it probably wouldn’t get anywhere as it was quite silly and simple (although it does have some social commentary underlying it – I didn’t think I’d these same issues about being able to afford to heat our homes would still be happening)…

But here it is!

Hope you enjoy it.
